HappyBelatedBirthdayAmerica

...vacation's over...somber words...

...we started it on the 25th,it ended last night, our adventure across a portion of whats left of our country was mind numbing...starting here and ending the first leg in detroit...it's been five years since we visited last, the friends and families we stayed with have 'migrated' south of the city to 'downriver'...subarbs...some of which are called Trenton,Wyandotte,Riverview and Gibraltar....damn fine communities, all of which are suffering, old world places, lots of history downriver...anyway,our adventures took us in and out of the city for food and spirits...vacant buildings and houses too numerous to count, the homeless have easily doubled, the 'beggers' downtown have quadrupled(in the not so distant pass, not so many homeless begged, even now pride probably stops most of them)...seen alot more holding signs at intersections too...well,we walked around to our old bars and restaurants by the old Tiger Stadium(whats left of her, they're tearing her down...what a bummer) went to the new one,Comerica Park, and Ford Field nextdoor where the Lions are gonna be...lots of people down on their luck,i helped a couple guys, who seemed deserving of help, with a couple singles here and there, but most were just lazy bums wanting their next fix,a sharp 'Nope,CantDoIt' sent em'away...

...it's getting worse in the cities, detroit is just my comparison,my old neighborhood in north dearborn heights, three blocks from 'the city' is in shambles compared to just nine years ago, when we bailed...its now 90% folks of 'middle eastern descent'...all of my old neighbors and friends have struck out for parts unknown to me...all of 'em...gone...oh well, wish'em goodluck...

...we spent three glorious fun filled days in Sandusky Ohio,Cedar Point and Soak City, amusement parks on the southwest bottom of Lake Erie...although Soak City is reletively new,my wife and i have been going to Cedar Point for almost thirty years, even before we were together, our oldest daughter had been once when she was 7...my middle daughter and my son had never been, yep,we'll go back...they're already planning the next trip...i'll say again,Cedar Point is blast for the coaster nut,the Millenium Force alone is worth the trip,we packed lunches and snacks, don't buy anything in the park...it's robbery in there, plain and simple...i mean three bucks for a bottle of water, come on !...thank goodness the weather was cloudy and occasionally wet...no standing next to a sweaty stinky bastard in the lines for the rides...lol...

...we stayed a day and night in Mansfield Ohio(visiting kin)...a day and night in Lake Cumberland Kentucky,at the state resort park(same area we spent a portion of our honeymoon over twenty years ago,a little town called Aaron, where a friend had a cottage then)...yep,lots of good people around there,if i couldn't live in Mississippi,i'd live in Kentucky...hand to God...

...we finished up back at home yesterday at 6:30 in the a.m...after a five hour nap, spent the rest of yesterday and lastnight playing with 'explosives'...we dropped the hammer on about a thousand rounds of various calibers, there was four of us guys' and two young'uns shooting,my son included, none of the womenfolk wanted to play(more trigger time for us...lol)...hamburgers,hotdogs,gunpowder and explosives(sparkler bombs are coool...) a few cold beers and warm friends made a great birthday party from us to America...

..as always,buy ammo,practice,be prepared...

Ken,

Thought I'd stop by and say hello...
Sounds like you stay pretty busy. I work two part-time jobs on a regular basis and still find time to do some minor handyman jobs on the side...
Your neighbors should appreciate someone that will do those little jobs for less...I do a lot of those myself...It seems like the regular contractors don't want to be bothered with the small stuff...

RW

BTW, Couldn't resist using the ...LOL
