...having a need to share:
...ahhh,trigger time, the blessing in disguise, the initial burst of adrenaline(and the slight shake of it,afterward)directly after firing the first volley...thirty seconds of calm introspect followed, while determining our 'day at the pit'(used to be 'the hill'...but lost that spot, that's a past story,anyway)...the pit shares three good setups,an 'L' shaped carve at almost right angles,a "midrange" dual purpose curvature from about twentyfive to sixty or seventy yards, depending where ya stand to start, also there is a long range trough, three side by side comfortably out to 182 yds(according to my rangefinder)..."the wall","the city",and "the country",that's what we call them, over all we call it "the pit"...
...i went solo on saturday,i'm/we're not the only ones that shoot here,i've seen around 12 different faces, after my gear up,i sent out live fire on some "cityfolk"(cuz of the nickname of this section?...oh nevermind)...after a hour or so,and about 3 mags thru the AR,trying to concentrate on movements and correction drills,i saw "ol'Ben"...walkin' and watchin' on his way to "the country" with his lever gun...don't even know the man, other than by name, after a hand shake, some idle chitchat,he asked "why in the world do you need a rifle like that for boy?"...
...20 seconds of silent thought...i spun, three rounds into the nearest silhouette, three more at the farthest, ran the last few yds and emptied the magazine in "the country",made my transition to sidearm strong side,on the fast walk back to/thru "the city",emptied two of three mags thru the .45 into them, went to my .40 from the weak side, emptied both mags...spun back to the AR,reloaded, and shot it into various silhouettes until empty...weapons cleared,i told Ben as calmly as i could..."I don't 'Need' a rifle like 'this'...i 'Prefer' a rifle like this!"
...i thought we were done with this whole chevy versus ford thingy...

Ken, personal weapons are personal choices. Some based on preference, others based on budget. I'd say "embrace 'em all" myself, as each has a certain use in mind, and others for which they will serve. In the end, a gun is a gun. Some shoot fast, some shoot slow. Some are accurate as hell, and some ain't so hot. Eventually they all serve the same purpose, which is to scare the living shit out of someone with thoughts of forcing their will upon us. We need ARs, lever actions, hand guns, and everything in between. Together they represent a formidable force, even more so when the bearer is comfortable with his choice of weapon. Try that on "ol' Ben" next time you see him...
...hey Mayberry, yep,i know...preference is like an a$$hole,we all got one,"embrace'em all"(?)ya noticed my closing prayer right?...financially speaking,it's not prudent to purchase an AR type platform, unless ya really want one...for me,no sweat,i built all of mine from parts during the beginning of the original AWB,sold some too, tripled my money most occasions...only "new" AR,my AR10,750 dollars i think,in '94' and it's an Armalite,No Way In Hell would i purchase a new one today...lots better stuff to spend the money on,like ammo for the ones i still have...
...thanx fer the visit Brother...
Ken, I like em all.If it goes bang I like. I have my preferences, but it don't mean I don't like the others.

...hey China, good to see ya Brother,"the others" really are my favorites, and it pains my ass to shoot'em('cept the 870s,they get "played with" like the ARs)love my leverguns too(got a 336 chambered in .35 Rem...what a hoot, and a winchester guidegun in .44mag,alas the two kings reside with the safequeens)
...anyway,i DO like the looks of my "gov't models"(i call both the 1911 and AR chassis gov't models...lol)...God bless ya Brother
Just wanted to drop in and say Hi. :)
